A Happier Christmas and New Year for ex-Timber Industry Pensioners
Money raised at a recent Timber Trade Benevolent Society
(TTBS) ball held in Cardiff will ensure that ex-timber industry pensioners have a more comfortable Christmas this year.
Over 200 people from the timber industry in South
Wales and the South West of England attended the TTBS' annual ball in late November,
held in the Jury's Hotel, Cardiff. The Ball's organisers have now received all pledges and donations, which have collectively
amounted to £3,000. This money will be used to pay for Christmas
hampers, annual TV licences, and the household bills of those
who used to work in the timber trade but have now fallen on hard
times.
TTBS South Wales Chairman, and Director of Newport's Premier Forest Products Ltd,
Dilwyn Howells, explains;
“The Timber Trade Benevolent Society was set up by those working in the timber industry to aid those who have now retired from it, helping
these pensioners with life's essentials and a few treats, too. It's nice to be able to assist those ex-employees who genuinely
need it, as it is their hard work that made the timber industry
in Wales and the South West successful.
Ex-employees who had previously worked in the timber
trade and believe that they could benefit from this fund can contact The Timber Trade
Benevolent Society. The Society can then talk to retirees about
the fund's application process and the type of expenses these
pensioners can get assistance with."
